what color of leather (like light oil, medium oil, or any other oils) would go good with a sorrel? I do not have a picture of my horse so I will post on that looks like my horse.

Sorrels??????
Riding in what discipline? For western I like light oil but not too light because they can look pinkish. For hunt seat I would use a nice oak bark color. For dressage go with classic black.
Reply:dark oil
i have a fire engine red sorrel also, and i tried on a light oil breastcollar on her and it looked terrible! she has a dark oil saddle, and looked great in it.
Reply:I've always gone with: light colored leather for dark horses, and dark colored leather for light colored horses (grey/white/buckskin..etc)
Reply:Don't try to match the color of your saddle to your horse. Instead just find a saddle that fits both of you well.
For one thing, by the time you have a colorful pad on your horse, no one will notice the saddle color. For another thing, a saddle can last a lifetime and you will likely have other horses to come in the future.
If you aren't showing you are free to buy whatever you like the best. For showing stock breeds such as Quarter horses the light oil is most popular, and probably has higher resale value. On the downside, light oil darkens in the sunlight, shows water spots easily and stains easier. Morgans and Arabs are shown in dark leather traditionally. But there will a slower market if you resell your saddle if it's really dark leather as traditional stock horse people shy away from it a bit.
I guess all things being equal I would buy a medium oil saddle, tending somewhat towards the light side. Then you could enjoy the benefits of everything.
Happy saddle shopping!
Reply:I would go with medium oil for this horse.
Reply:Yuo have a BEAUTIFUL cherry sorrel horse!!!
I think for pleasure and trail riding I would consider a nylon girth with sheepskin coating. The chace you may get it wey is graeter and if not from creeks %26amp; ponds then from sweat. Show ring saddlery is totally different from practical tack. If you are set on leather, then match your saddle %26amp; breastcollar.
Reply:i would go with medium.
Reply:Light or medium both look nice. Nothing dark, it is overwhelming on the color.
Reply:MMmmMMmMmm Oakbark or Tan I think!
