Best Horse for me??
I never like to buy a horse with a set profile in mind because really it is the individual horse that will make your horse and rider team. I feel it is better to approach the horse search with an open mind, and perhaps a very general idea of what you are looking for. But, if you are determined to stick with a certain breed of horse, the Appendix Quarter horse or the American Quarter Horse come to mind from your list.
Reply:Your heading towards a quarter horse in those things...or an appaloosa, I have an appy and he is beautiful and does anything =) but anyway I hope you find what you want. Instead of looking on the net. Look in your local newspaper and around your local stock feeds and saddlerys. But never the less here are some sites

Reply:well, dreamhorse.com is a good one...it is probably my favorite.

You may want to go for a quarterhorse. They can be tall, they are more hardy than a thoroughbred, and come in all of the colors you listed. they are definately speedy, and there is plenty of halter classes for them. (They do well in many disciplines as well, though you are more likely to find one trained in the weastern discipline).

If you are a new rider, I would look for a horse around ten to 15 years old. they tend to be calmer, and have more complete training, and can be had for less money than some younger more excitable individuals.
Reply:Being 5' tall, a horse anywhere from 14.2h-16h should be fine for you. Maybe you should look at QHs or an Appendix QH (QH/Thoroughbred cross). Don't limit yourself to breed or color alone, or you could pass up the perfect horse, but for your price range, you shouldn't have a problem finding a suitable QH or QH cross. GOOD LUCK....shopping for a new horse is always fun. Try these sites.

Reply:Go for a quarter horse, I'd say. Pretty much fits everything including hunter pleasure, although if you don't want a typical western horse, a TB or Appendix is good too.

if you like tall horses try thoroughbreds, take note that not all thoroughbreds are hot and easily excitable i know from personal experience since my thoroughbred thinks that he's a flippin' mountain pony! or a warmblood; draft mixes are pretty tall and 99.9% of the time take on the calm, relaxed characteristic of the draft horses. if you want a speedy horse then not a draft/draft mix. tenessee(sp?) walkers are really tall but are usually used as parade horses and therefore would have to be re-trained to run. color souldn't really matter to you, i wanted a buckskin REALLY badly but ended up with a bay. i also wanted a mare and ended up with a gelding. so really, honestly yo usouldn't limit yourself to certain breeds, colors, or genders; just find a horse that you are comfortable with and that will meet your general requirements.

p.s. you might meet your future horse in a very un-expected way, i met MY horse through my mom's riding lessons-he was the one she took lessons on and now i can't get away from him! j/k! not that i want to!

Good luck!

they have a search icon that you can look up all u wont
Reply:try a thoroughbred, quarter horse or arabian. those are all pretty much around horses. You can try getting a thoroughbred off the track and they will be pretty speedy, but they also can have many medical problems. Quarter horses can be more western horses but they will train to pretty much anything. Arabians can be a bit hard to work with but they have great personalities. These horses aren't to expensive when they're green, depending on the blood line. For color of their coats, all those breeds can pretty much be any color. Thoroughbreds are the tallest of those three, usually, but there can be exceptions. Those breeds can excel in hunter. try equine.com or dreamhorse.com
Reply:Don't ever limit yourself by color... you might pass up the perfect horse if you do that.

A Quarter Horse, Paint, or Appaloosa would probably be the best choice for you if you want to do halter. Plus you'll probably be able to find a nice enough horse of one of those breeds that will also fit in your price range. I would say look for something around 15.2hh. Are you still growing? If you're young and still going to grow a lot, you'll probably want to look for something with a little more height who you'll grow into.
