Stud..........?
I don't know of a vet that WOULD try it. Usually, if the animals is a "cryptorchid," the testicles are "atrophied" (smaller and malformed.) That usually means they won't work right either. In some cases, they do, however, no matter how pretty your horse is, it's unethical in MOST (but not all) veterinarians opinions to do a surgery to let a cryptorchid look like a stallion, or one that would help breed a cryptorchid. This is a heritable trait (meaning any babies can have the same problem!) Of course, there's no law that says you can't try a surgery like this, so you may be able to find some vet out there that would try something...but it wouldn't be me.
Reply:They can operate on colts and try to get them to drop. Some colts only drop one and they take it out but he still has the other..There called ridgelings...Have the vet take a look and see what he or she might be able to do...
Reply:2 points for me yeah!! why would you want people to do that? it is so annoying. i would just say nothing other than your q. cause people are gonna do it worse if you say serious answers only!! sorry.
Reply:I'm not too sure bout this but I do think its possible for the colt to have a surgery. I also juz wanna say that its great that you love ur colt so much, u must have a great bond.
Reply:Some stud colts "drop" late but there is surgery where you can do but, its a sum of money. Anywho, Your horse sounds beautiful..........................
Reply:I've never heard of a colt having a surgery and staying at stud. I do know that we had a colt who dropped one testicle as a yearling, and the other didn't drop til he was almost three. It could be that your colt is a late dropper.
Reply:I have a colt who is now one and a half years old, and he hasn't dropped yet, but he is starting to behave very colty.
At shows, he won't put his fifth leg away, and he is starting to sniff the mares ans squeal at them when they are coming into season (or in season).
I thought he would have dropped by now, and when I asked some breeders and the vet about it, I was told that some horses don't drop until they are 3-4 years old!
I was told that only if he hasn't dropped by the time he is 4, then I should start getting worried.
Reply:My friend has a horse that had three testiculs, no lie not known this he put what he thought was a gelding out in the pasture with his mares and they all got pregnant!
