How much should I sell my Reg AQHA Mare Horse For?
hi sam, she sounds gorgious but i'd say study the horse sale sites to get an idea for price range, or contact aqha for help to sell to professional not to a hack. www.horsedirectory.com, or try tradeingpost for ideas

Really horses that don't like treats, apples, ect?

i have 2 horses buck-o a 5 year old bay dun with a stripe down his back, also he is 14 hands tall. comanche is a sorrel color (red, brown) 7 year old barrel racer, he is 17 hands tall

and well i used to love to give my old horse saddie treats and well my 2 other horses wont eat treats its so weird ( well they will eat thi plain lookingtreat that looks to me like a pig noss,it has the 2 holes in it) i never meet horses like this before and well they also wont eat apples carrots and most other treats

i dont realy care about the treats realy only about apples and carrots because there good for them!

why do you think they wont eat carrots and apples ( ive even opened up an apple to let them smell the sweet juices and they ran away!

Really horses that don't like treats, apples, ect?
maybe they just dont like them, just like people everybody has likes, %26amp; dislikes
Reply:some horses don't like treats like apples or carrots. I have one that only eats peppermints, and another that will only accept a handful of sweet feed as a treat. if you are determined to teach them to take apples or carrots, and your horses eat sweet feed, try slicing the apple and dipping it in the feed, that way they smell something they are familiar with and will taste it. or you can chop up bits and add them to thier daily feed, and then once they get a taste for them, they should take them willingly

Name Suggestions for New Horse?

We just bought a new horse from a rescue, and we'd like a new name for her. We haven't been able to think of a suitable one yet, so any suggetions? She's a coming 3yr sorrel filly, she's incredibly sweet and calm but she's not a pushover either.

I really want to start a buckskin line with my palimino mare. HELP?

My mare is a palomino out of a sorrel mare and sired by a palomino stallion. I want to begin a breeding program for buckskins and palominos and I am looking to breed my first buckskin. Would I be correct in saying that I need to breed to a homozygous for the black gene stallion? In looking for this, i only find paints that are homozygous for the black gene. I understand that this throws paint into the possibity mix. What should i really do and look for in a stallion if i want a buckskin foal?

I really want to start a buckskin line with my palimino mare. HELP?
Hello!

I agree with everyone who said don't breed for color alone! But, the best thing to do is go with a bay or black that is NOT homozygous for the black gene. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, but I am very well aware of homozygous black stallions and what they are capable of producing. I personally have a buckskin mare out of a palomino mare and by a bay stallion. We also have a black filly out of a palomino mare and by a HOMOZYGOUS black stallion.. She came out smokey black... The chances of you getting a black or bay out of your mare when breeding to a homozygous black stallion is higher than getting a buckskin or grulla. My suggestion is to take a look at the bay stallion "Zhip". He has an incredible pedigree and throws buckskin babies frequently from what I have seen. (He is who my mare is by, and she is wonderful!). You can find him at www.beboquarterhorses.com

Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful healthy baby!!!
Reply:If you don't have quality horses, don't breed. they need to be registered, excellent conformation, and show winners to be worth breeding. There are WAY too many unwanted horses as it is, I advise you not to breed your own if you don't have high quality horses.
Reply:Look at the stallion's progeny and see what percentage of his colts are buckskins. Normally a breeder will answer all of your questions and even have pics of the offspring. Hope this helps!
Reply:IDK ask the vet maybe or....i agree with kelly26
Reply:Well God knows there aren't enough people breeding primarily for color now that the genetics are understood. (I'm being sarcastic, for the uninitiated)

Like a parade of ugly women in expensive clothes, the results can be hideous.

So you want a foal out of your mare. That's neither here nor there, do what you want, you will anyway. It's the whole "line" idea that trips my trigger. Where do you live that you don't see the condition of the horse market?

If you are serious about this, you're not hedging your bet very well. Your mare has only one dilute gene to pass. Unless you breed her to a homozygous black/agouti perlino stallion, there is no guarantee you're going to get a diluted color, and then if she throws her dilute, you'll get perlino. Not a buckskin.

A bay genetically is a black with the black limited to mane, tail and points by the agouti gene. A buckskin is a bay diluted by the dilute gene. A perlino is a double-diluted bay.

Your palomino is a diluted red. No black to throw. It's all on the stallion.

If you want to breed buckskins, you should be breeding solid black mares to a perlino who is homozygous agouti. And for goodness sakes, he should have more going for him than a set of testicles and a pretty color.

Kelly, you miss the point. There are lots of registered horses with Doc in their lineage ending up on somebody's plate. The horse market is glutted, and we are at a point where only the BEST of the BEST should be bred. "Crazy pedigree" is not an attribute indicative of well bred stock. It sounds like the result of a bunch of amateurish breedings. Don't get me wrong, it might have produced a lovely mare, but even nice looking, solid horses aren't selling well. Only the top of the market is selling well.

Creating a "line" of decent, average horses is not an ethical thing to do at this time, and too damn many people focus on color without looking at the rest of the package.

EDIT:

In reply to your message to me:

"Message: that was an extremely rude response to my postage about breeding my mare. you have no right to make the comments you did about her breeding and how well she or anything would do on the market. im not out there to make amazing sales and the BEST of everything. i just want some color in my barn and a nice lot of good horses. if i sell a few, great, if not, oh well. horses are a passion for me and a hobby. unlike most and apparently you, im not in it for the money! it was an honest question for i have never bred. im not even old enough to own the horse, let alone start my own stable. it was a family agreement to look into it and get a good start on it before i go to college.

its people like you that drove me to want to start this line! ya the market has gone to crap but you know y? its cuz people like you are all about having the best out there and getting every cent out of the horses they can. when everyone is breeding to impress people like you, apples compared to apples is all a matter of preferrence. my preferrance is buckskin. it has been my dream to own a buckskin since a knew what it was. DONT shoot me down for that. i hope you will be more concious of peoples property and feelings and i hope you dont assume past what you know because that is indeed what you did here. "

RESPONSE: Where do I begin? I spend nearly $8000 a year for my horses' care. I don't breed or sell anything, so your idea of my being in it for the money is crap. I make NOTHING off them. The reason I don't breed is because of overpopulation. This isn't a $$ issue, but an ethical one.

Second, facts are what they are. Genetically you have no guarantee of a buckskin out of your Palomino mare. So if your dream of a buckskin is the point of breeding, how many average, red, black, or bay foals are you going to crank out and possibly never get one?

You miss the point. There are lots of nice, colored foals going through sales across the country for a fraction of what it costs to breed one. I just bought a coming 3 year old buckskin mare of my choice lineage who is awesome for $500. I know what she looks like, I know how she moves, I know she has the personality I have always dreamed of...she is the cupcake of the herd. I also know the person I bought her from paid nearly $3000 for her as a weanling just over two years ago. I was her last chance before the sale barn after months of marketing this cute, colored mare.

Think about it!! Stud fees. Vet care. IgG. And if it's rude to point out the errors in your plans genetically, not to mention ethically, so be it. I don't care.

I care more about what happens to the foals people "just have to have" when the cute has worn off, when you go off to college, when tragedy strikes and suddenly they "must find homes." Stay in the horses for a few years as an adult, with all the adult responsibilites, and I bet you'll cringe at your idea.

The market has gone to crap because of too many people breeding too many average horses...pay attention in econ class. You might learn something about supply and demand.

You're a minor? Big deal. That is no excuse to be irresponsible.
Reply:Look for a stallion that is homozygus for the black gene. Not just any homozgus. Look for black horses then go thru and find the ones that are homozygus for black.

Palomina... look for a stud bay, sorrel, chestnut that carries the cream gene if you breed pal to pal you will blow out the color and get a creamello. don't forget about your conformation and sensability.

I would rather have a green horse with purple poka-dots as long as they can perform and function!!!

What breed of horses are you looking for I may be able to help you. I know of some really great stallions that carry the cream gene. And what disipline are you going towards. Feel free to email me and I can send some pic of a few.
Reply:hnmmm first is ur palomino registered and what breed of yours. if your looking at breeding it be more worth while to have reigstered horses.

Also i was reading bout this the other day. i will try find you site that has all the lists and possible outsomes. it explains all the genetivs about breeding pallys and buckskins. i'll find it and get back to u.

http://www.horse-genetics.com/buckskin-h...

also would be good idea to get the genetics of ouy horse checked to see which genes are dominate and recessive. this way you will have a better understanding at what you are likely to foal.

hope this helps.

EDIT*** By the way person that told her not to breed. Her horse has good bloodlines, i know that for a fact as my colt has docs in him. and i have heard of the others. research your answers before you go critising people.
Reply:Oh if that wasn't the stupidiest response I have seen in a long time to someones email........

cnsdubie isn't out there breeding hun, shes out there taking in the crap that people like you put out. Your the one that is causing the overload in the market, 'oh if i sell one great, if not, oh well' , what a stupid idiotic statement. How about this for a no brainer, 'DONT BREED', you only want to 'experiment for color, what a joke.

Theres a reason ppl shouldn't have sterile horses, your the poster child for it.

Next time you want to rant and rave in someones email... do it elsewhere, we have heard too much breeding 'oh but shes so pretty *mare*' junk to make us nauseous.

red dot
Reply:i have some horses with bloodlines that some people would kill for (doc, zippo,go man go,johnny que)and every one is gelded for a reason.and the last foal i had on the place was a clydesdale arabian cross and wasnt planned,my 18.3 hand stud clyde went thru three 2x12 wood corrals to get to her that was four years ago at the start of the drought and as soon as she was weened i found new homes for them (she is now in training for dressage and doing great and looks beautiful)the clyde was gelded and sold and the mares i had were sold leaving me with the horses i just need for working .Cns and Biscut have a valid point ! horse conformation and color genetics takes years and years to learn and even then they are not 100% and i have bought many horses from people who have tried to do what you want to do and it didnt work out the way they wanted so they keep breeding and pushing out foals that they cant sell.how many times have you been walking around and see a great looking couple with a kid that would scare the paint off a barn.i was told a long time ago by people who i respect that " you only breed what you need".you are young and dont have real world experiance but i will bet you a hundred to one there is a foal already out there that is already exactly what you want and will cost a lot less than trying to breed one yourself.
Reply:I'm sorry and go ahead and thumb me down but CNSdubie poses a very very valid point. The market it crap right now and genetics are funny to figure out. If you are a minor then wait until collge is through before persuing this dream of yours. I'm by no means saying don't do it period BUT if you love horses as you say you do then please just wait a few years go to college take an animal science with a horse science emphasis course and learn more about it before plunging headlong into it. I rasie foals and it is a HUGE commitment. Usually I have 4-5 good weel bred colts every year and get roughly 3500 for them at weaning age. Last year I had 2 and only was able to sell them for 750.00 and their sire was a world champ and the dam an aqha reserve champ. Not to mention both were buckskins which are indeed a hot commodity right now. I'm not in it for the money I'm in it for breeding of better stock. I don't breed mares that aren't correct in conformation I don't breed to flawed stallions I spend hours researching EVERYTHING about each mare and stud combo before I make my final decision. This year I have only one foal hitting the ground b/c I chose as a breeder not to breed any mares b/c of the overpopulation of horses and how the market was. The foal hittin the ground is out of my "daughter" (say that b/c I helped deliver her as a foal) and it will NEVER be sold. Just thoroughly think it through and really take some classes on it. You may wind up with a whole new opinion
Reply:You've got a couple options....

If you breed to a bay or black that is homozygous for the black, then you will get a bay or black baby...you have a 50% chance of getting the cream gene from your mare, so that means, 50% of those babies will have it, giving you the buckskin (or smokey black).

If you bred your mare to a perlino stallion (double dilute buckskin basically), you will get either a palomino, buckskin, cremello, or perlino baby (depending on if he's homozgous for black or not).

Don't just breed for color, make sure you're picking a stallion with attributes you like also. Are you looking for Halter, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, etc?

I know of an AQHA stud homozygous for black, One Hot Invitation, that is western pleasure bred.

Breeding to a palomino or buckskin will increase your chances to 75% of getting either a single or double dilute, and breeding to a double dilute (cremello or perlino) will give you a 100% chance of color.

I hope this helps, but you need to narrow down what type of showing you want to do with your offspring before I can really tell you any horses. Check out www.qhd.com (quarter horse directory) and you can look up studs by event, etc.

Those are a Beautiful Mocha-type Colour. :)

With that Crisp Milky Mane to Go along with it..
Reply:That's a tough one...

No-one can really predict what a baby or even a foal will turn out like....

I have blonde hair... REALLY BLONDE and my parents have dark brown...

It doesn't matter!

You should get a good barrel racer and if you gave like 20% are colts on average and 80% are fillies we'd have a better chance of guessing.

Ask the owner of the Sire.

When I bred my horse my trainer predicted right... but she had tons of experience. Good luck
Reply:It's more important to know (have pictures of) the sire's sire and dam. We know that your mare would provide a chestnut gene, but we don't know if the sire is capable of passing a chestnut gene.
Reply:Your mare has two recessive red genes. The stallion could be homo- or heterozygous for dominant black.

If the stallion is homozygous you will get a black base color foal. If he is heterozygous, you have a 50-50 chance of a black or red base color.

I can't help you with the pinto marking, since I'm not familiar with that. If it was an Appaloosa, I could give you odds on what markings you would get.

50-50 chance for filly or colt.
Reply:anyone that takes you fancy
Reply:I would ask for the some of the paint's previous foals. See how many are fillies and how many are colts. But chestnut/sorrel is a very prominent gene it seems. So most likely, you will get a chestnut or a sorrel.

Twinkle Stencil Kit--Would you use this product? It makes a glittery star shape on your horse!?

Hey, just wondering who would use this on their horse. I think it would be fun for a girl who likes bling and glamour on her horse. What do you think?

My Appaloosa gelding Milo already has enough spots, but my plain sorrel Quarter Horse mare might like getting dressed up like this horse: http://unitedvetequine.com/Merchant2/mer...

I just saw this product and thought--who would actually use that, and in what sort of class? I mean, could you actually have that on your horse in a halter or showmanship class?

Twinkle Stencil Kit--Would you use this product? It makes a glittery star shape on your horse!?
LOL! I actually have used that glitter before. I used to travel with a lady who was a reiner, and for her freestyle reining class we would always get her horse all glammed up. It's not really supposed to be used in like halter classes, or showmanship stuff, the judges would probably look down on it. But in our case it was okay, because in freestyle reining, anything goes. I think also in parades or something you could use it. It's not bad for your horse, and washes off with ease.
Reply:lol...I'd use it...That would be great for the 4th of July Parade, Memorial Day...yea...I'd use it.
Reply:Yes i use it for fun play dates or shows that arent serious but only in certain classes i think it is just adorable on my horse
Reply:It's very cute but wouldn't suit my boys !

I think a lot of people would like it for fun rides and fancy dress etc. Seems like a nice thing to buy someone for a Christmas present.

I think the smartest thing I saw round here recently was someone who'd clipped their horse and used stencils so she had little love hearts on her quarters ( my daughter wants to try that one out on the pony !)
Reply:I used it on Lena once, I just bought it. I tested by her feet and it looks great!! Most likely halter and showmanship classes would not allow it and other bigger shows but local shows would prob allow it but not like all out Glitz n' Glam everywhere. Like some on there rump, in mane, and on bottom part of her legs. Best wishes!
Reply:Probably not going to add anything new but here it goes anyway lol...

Twinkle is not for Halter, Showmanship or Hunter/Saddleseat day flat classes (pleasure, eq, etc), the jumper ring (there is enough debate on whether to allow striping and rhinestones on GPA helmets!) or (god forbid) dressage.

Western barrels and reining i don't know so much about lol.

Watching some of the Saddleseat and Hunter night (keyword, night) classes I have had my suspicions on whether the mane and hoof product is used. If so it is usually such a small amount and in the gold or silver so it is just picked up under the lights rather than being overly obvious.

Whenever I see a lot of Twinkle it is usually in a parade, demonstration (anyone see the *dancing horse* at the World Famous Lipizzaner show?), drill team, or costume class (love those costume classes!) :-) or you know, just to make your horse a diva lol

I have never used it personally. My Gelding has a bit of a complex and HATES it when anyone calls him pretty (bad things always happen...caused by him) and only tolerates braiding for horse shows (still puts up a fuss though). I don't want to know what would happen if i used twinkle on him.... although I do think deep down he is pretty much a diva already lol.

If I had a mareish on the other hand .... *Evil Grin*
Reply:I do drill team and parades with my mule and would just use it on him for that.

I wouldn't ever use it for show purposes...

If you get it, let me know what you think of it!
Reply:It soo sweet!

Your horse would look soooo cool!!!!!!!

I would wear it at schooling shows but not in good shows!!!

I would wear that on the spunky pony I ride!!!!!
Reply:i wouldnt use it in shows persay. but i have seen other girls use in in big barrel races etc. but i have only used it at a 4th of july barrel race once and during a parade. in the right situation it can be fun to use. :o)
Reply:I sell quite a bit of it. Mostly it is used for parades, drill teams, and rodeo queen horses. I would not use it in a breed show, but in some of the local shows that "fun" classes it would be OK. I have also seen it used as part of a costume in the freestyle reining classes.
Reply:You can't use it in most shows, but I put it on my barrel horse in the competitions that allow it and at fun shows at the barn.

It fun to have, so is glittery hoof polish. =]
Reply:I think it is a cool product. I would use in parades.
Reply:I would use it but not at shows!
Reply:I wouldn't us eit in showmanship classes but mainly fund things. I barrel race and I'll do my horses witht eh twinkle products for a little added pizazz! lol Now they do make certain products you could potentially use in showmanship classes. They have a white highlighter that has microscopic glitter in it to enhance white marks and make them sparkle without having the bold colors. then there is a spray called Gold Dust that you could spray into the mane and tail or sorrels and palominos to make the mane sparkle, for all colros they make a detangler that has tiny tiny glitter in it that looks good in all colored manes and tails but it too lacks the bold colors. I have actually painted the TN Titans sign on my horse's rump with the twinkle products for a barrel show before so you ddon't have to stick with just the stencils. Parades are another good use for them. You can get christmas stencils and use those for a christmas parade , easter same thing:) I find it to be a very fun product. You mostly see kids using it but I'm young at heart and I liek sparkles! lol So yeah 25 and I use it:) Also a lady that comes inot my store paints roses on her draft horse's hips, she does the carriage rides downtown and always gets compliments on it. I'll post a pic of my mare with her Titan's hip and try and get Jamie to bring me a pic of her drafts with the roses. It's really cool.
Reply:Not in shows, but I think that is really really cool as long as it comes off without pulling their hair.

Maybe in local jumper shows?

One more time. Which horse would be better suited as a stallion?

First and foremost, let me say this. These are not my horses and I am not advertising them for sale nor am I buying any of them. Thank you to whoever reported this as me advertising. The question posted is not about buying or selling. My question is: Which of these horses would be the better stallion prospect? Since I see this all the time about how cool owning a stallion is, should I get a stallion as my first horse, should I breed my stallion, etc. I decided to let everyone here look at several horses and list the good and bad points and maybe open a few eyes about what is and is not stallion material.

The gray horse is listed as having points in multiple AQHA events and a World class pedigree and a great disposistion.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa283...

The big sorrel %26amp; white overo is listed as having points in halter, color, roping and western pleasure in APHA out of a World Champ sire

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa283...

One more time. Which horse would be better suited as a stallion?
Ok, I will answer your question the correct way, lol! The two paint horses have very bad conformation for BREEDING purposes, they both have very up right shoulders, straight hocks, short necks, and the list goes on.... The first paind horse that HAS shown is nicer then the thrd paint horse. But I would NOT ever breed my mare to them. However, the grey horse is REALLY nice looking! I absolutely love his type, he is really an awesome looking horse. He has a very well proportioned body, his neck is nice and balanced for his size, good lenght of back, nice clean looking legs, and a sweet looking face. I def. would consider breeding to this horse.

I hope this answers your question!
Reply:I'm sniffling here cause I was responding to this and it was deleted while trying to post. I spent time on it also, ARGH to the reporter! I'm asked why I love horses so much and my answer is because there not people. I have to cop out on this one cause I can't fathom writing all that again.

Edit* You drinking that pepto yet? LOL People can't read... you got better responses off the first post that got deleted... geeze
Reply:Hi, first off I think that you are perfectly qualified to own a stallion and you have made it perfectly clear that this is not your first horse you are poking at the people who want one for their first horse.

(I too loathe the idiots that think ooh a stallion cool should I get one? and then when every one advises them not to the thumbs down you) . I have several and they are quite a sound investment providing you a. know what you are doing, and b. you shop for a stud carefully. I think this is a great question

It would be nice to see these horses move because I feel that a horse's athlectic ability is just as important as looks and conformation as well as attitude. Just by looks alone, I am having a tough time deciding on number 1 (gray) and nuber 3 (tobiano). I do not like the build of the second horse (overo) because I think he has an ugly neck and I do not like his hocks b/c I think they are too straight. I do not want to offend you I mean his markings are pretty....but pretty is as pretty does if you invest in a stud it is your obligation to improve the breed and the other two are built beter, thus I am assuming they move better and they look nice too. As for deciding between the gray and the tobi...I'd like to see the back end from another angle on the gray ashe may be a bit straigt hocled too, but he has a nicer neck and better top line. I like the fact that he is gray and a pretty variety at that, I am bored with the solid brown QHs of the past decade (on a side note, just down the road form me, what is now a gravel pit was a stud farm and for a limited time, wimpy stood there and an old guy told me when they were digging for gravel they dug up tons of foal skeletons because if the foals were born with any white they were destroyed!) So I am glad that grey is popular again, but the gray gene can be trickey as it is domiant and sometimes comes up when you do not want it and it does not mix well with some colors, so you may be turning some peole off with the fear of not the color they want. The tobi has nicemarkings and you do not have to worry about the overo lethal frame gene and his markings are popular...thus almost guranteeing an influx of clients. I liked his topline and his neck too. But I guess I would pick the gray based on pedigree and show history.

As long as you have a safe facility which I am sure you already took into consideration (here in connecticut studs have to be kept in metal pipe (round pen) corrals).

This stallion selection process remindsme of an old saying about finding and breeding for the perfect stallion. "Out of 100 stallions you should geld 90 and shoot 9...and then you might still not even have the right one."
Reply:I would geld them all b/c there are way too many unwanted horses in this world. Why keep a stallion to add to the problem?
Reply:The only horse I'd take as a stallion is a Gypsy Vanner. It'll be a long time before I have the money for that purchase though. I'd only get a gelding in all other cases. If a person wanted to get a stallion for stud then he would have to be of exceptional bloodlines to make any good money. I wouldn't be riding him.....it's too much of a risk on a person's physical well being. I don't know what the big deal is with this question. People need to lighten up. If you don't like the question then move on. It's not like any animals are being hurt here. I got my education from owning a horse and as far as I'm concerned that's the best way. There are plenty of people out there to help (i.e. trainers, vets, other horse owners, etc.).
Reply:Ok, I would not have kept any of them entire. Most stallions should be geldings. It takes exceptional traits to make a stud in my humble opinion and none of them look like anything particularily special. I also want my stallions (and I have owned 7 in my life) to have a superlative competition record before I use them on my mares. For the dressage horses I want a dressage index of at least 125.

I looked at your grey horse and wouldnt want him entire as he is croup high. This is a major fault and makes training hard. (The grey he is supposed to look like another poster showed us is a lovely specimen and would make a super riding horse. Lovely conformation) The red and white youngster is sooo ordinary, why leave it entire its just a garden variety neddy.

Let me agree with you...stallions are not cool or suitable for novices nor is it necessary to keep every colt ungelded...it should be the best of the best of the best, only!
Reply:I can't see the picture, but on your discription I would say the gray horse. He has points which shows he can be shown, he has a world class pedigree which shows he comes from a line of producers, and disposition is just a bonus. As we all know when it comes to horses that are shown big, its mostly about pedigree and show-ability. If the horse has a bad attitude but can be shown and win, who cares. But if the horse has a bad attitude and can't be shown or win, then theres a problem. The Sorrel and white overo, sounds ok, too but if he is only out of a world champ sire, and not having a world class pedigree I would place him below the gray. And the sorrel having the great disposition, well who cares. If I am going to spend my money on a stallion to breed to I am going to look at what the horse has done, and what the horses in that stallions pedigree has done.
Reply:Ever get the feeling you are wasting your breath? After all that, someone now asks about your choice of buying a stud?? The grey horse looks like Zippo A Ward who we used to stand.

Good luck and keep the Pepto close at hand for the inevitable heartburn that will soon follow!
Reply:People don't read.... Do they??? I agree with Debbi, good luck trying educate some people. The only one I liked was the Grey(but I don't know much about Quarter horses conformation, just the general).
Reply:Okay, I'm chiming in as far as this goes - all three should be gelded. Just because a horse is a champion does not make that horse stallion material. Only horses that display the closest to specific breed confirmation should be kept as stallions and that is debatable as well.

The gray horse is a quarter horse and two me is nothing to write home about and if I was to evaluate these horses on whether I would like to breed my mare to one of these horses if the other two were stallions is a resounding no. First, pictures do not tell a whole story about a stallion - he could be the most gorgeous thing out there but his attitude sucks and he has a tendency to pass on this type of personality to his get - do you want to deal with that?

So to answer your question - non would be a better stallion prospect and because your comparing apples to oranges it doesn't quite make sense.
Reply:I agree that non are good stallion material at least as far as I'm concerned, judging by pictures. But there is so much more to evaluating a stallion than pictures. If the grey horses points were in cutting or reining I might not care so much what he looks like.

In many ways the thought of people coming here to learn about horses is very scary. The answers you got to this question make me fear for the future of our sport and our world.
Reply:I'll hazard a guess here that the first one is the stallion. Good luck with your attempt to educate people but I think it will fall on mostly deaf ears. It's the same sort of thing as having a pitbull - because it looks good.

Sorry but I wouldn't have a stallion on my mind never mind my stableyard. I have worked with them but I prefer not having to muck out whilst armed !
Reply:Based on the three photo's, I prefer the gray as a QH stud prospect. I wish his shoulders were even with the butt and his neck had some muscle, but he looks like a fine example of his breed. He has the best back of he bunch by far.

The tobiano is hard to see in the pic. The way he's turned, his head looks too big for the neck and he looks oddly balanced. He might be put together well, but hard to tell. What I see would be a better gelding.

The overo horse looks young (I hope), poorly muscled, and has a very weak back and pencil neck. His shoulders need to catch up with his butt, but even then, I'd have a hard time fitting a saddle to this fellow. If it is a baby, he might grow out of this, but that long back and general conformation will make him hard to keep together. Nice color, but looks very odd to me overall.

With my favorite breed of horse, Spanish horses, A stallion is much preferred for a riding/ showing horse. Of course, owning a stallion in Europe is much easier and accepted. I could not find a single mare broke to ride and few geldings, usually coming from the killers in Spain. I have yet to see a mare or gelding in the show ring. ;-( The stallions I've ridden have been amazing and 100% better than all the geldings with no stud behavior. My next one might be a stud that I geld so I can have a quality gelding that might keep his stallion fire and looks. I'm glad most other horse breeds are not so rigid in acceptable show and riding horses!
Reply:would say Definitely not the first one:

* his hind quarters are to high in proportion to his fronts, thus causing him to be more in his forehand.

*nice head

*stocky

The second one:

*looks o.k, not a very good picture though, plus hes kind of turned so I cant really tell the relation between his fronts and backs.

*once again, nice head and stocky-ness

I would DEFINITELY say the third one:

*he has an almost right on relation between his fronts and back

* I'm not to sure what breed he is (appendix maybe), but he has good conformation

*nice chest, legs and neck.

So over all, I wold say the 3rd one
Reply:Since two are ALREADY geldings, why are you asking this question at all?

Wouldn't it be better to ask "Should I geld this horse" and leave comparing the other two out of the mix completely?

Remember - Gelding means castrating. Ergo, you can geld a horse only once. Once gelded, there's no going back.

That said, with your apparent limited knowledge of horses in general, I wouldn't advise you to OWN/BUY a horse at all until you have taken several years of lessons and learned how to handle horses properly - how to care for them etc. etc. etc. - and

THEN consider your lifestyle, finances, and other important factors - before ever ever ever owning a horse.

Finally, using this question/answer forum to try to "educate" people to your particular philosophy is really not cool. Consider getting off your soap box.
Reply:Don't even consider getting a stallion as a first horse their hormonal, they can get violent, and they are most definently not a good first horse. Get either a gelding or a mare, but don't even consider a stallion until you own your own barn and have had substantial expierience with them. Stallions aren't a pet and they aren't gonna act like the ones you see in movies like the black stallion
Reply:Owning a stallion is not cool. And, if this is your first horse, absolutely do not get a stallion. You would be biting off way more than you you can chew.
Reply:No DO NOT have a stallion as your first horse..in my opinion only people who are going to use the stallions with experience should have them all others should be gelded... stallions can be dangerous and very hard to control..... especially if they even slightly think that there is a mare around... I would go with a gelding for your first horse... mares can be moody too
Reply:None. To many un wanted horses these days. It'll only end up in the slaughter house even if your horse is Seabiscuit.

Also. A stallion is NOT in ANYWAY for a first horse. They are VERY dangerous and require PROFESSIONAL handling. Nobody under 18 should be around a stallion. I suggest going with a bomb proof older gelding or mare.
Reply:If this is 1st horse you need a gelding because they are going to be easier to handle usually.
Reply:it all depends on what exactly you are doing but for me I know that it was all ways harder to keep a stud around because they lack the respect that geldings have. So this all depends on those two factors and how much time you are willing to put in to the horse.
Reply:First of all, IMHO, no one should have a stallion as a first horse. There are a few stallions in this world that are gentlemen, but for the most part, they have been taught to be so by very experienced horsepeople. Testosterone in a 1200 - 1600 lb. animal can be a very dangerous thing. I would go with a gelding. Also, there are enough folks out there who have breeding facilities that backyard breeders are not really needed and in fact they just add to the glut of unwanted horses when they breed their animals without enough knowledge or thought to pedigree, conformation, improvement of the breed, etc.

I'd get a gelding. The best are laid back and easygoing. I could not see the second horse, the first looked nice, and like he was from a professional facility. If he is a stallion though I would not buy him. The third looks sweet, but is not a good enough horse to be a stallion. Also, make sure he is really broke and is not young, or not fully trained. Your first horse should be a teacher, not a lesson in fear. Hope this helps. I have been down the same road as I purchased an uncut colt a long time ago that was very well bred and I considered letting him remain a stallion. When he started to mature sexually though, I changed my mind fast and am so glad I did. He has been my riding companion for 15 years and I can't imagine life without him.
Reply:First of all, do you plan on standing the stud yourself or having someone do it for you?

If this will be your first horse EVER, then you may want to seek out the advice of people who have had years of experience in breeding.

Stallions are tempermental especially when they know they are being taken to breed a mare. I have worked with HOT HOT, T-bred stallions and when they know they are being taken to the breeding shed they become absolute monsters!

In regards to which horse would make the better stud, I see a more desireable confirmation in the gray.

But, for your safety try to learn as much as you can about handling breeding stallions and about the business itself.

Good luck.

What do you think about my horse? (pics included!)?

BTW she's a purebred foundation quarter horse, and some of the pics she's in with my brother, she just recently turned 4 this summer. I'm kinda bored and just wondering what do you think about her just from her pics? She's the sorrel color looking horse btw but shes actually a red roan, not the best pics but whatevah. The most recent are the first ones, it's winter :P

she's a little long in the pasturns and her feet need to be trimmed and her angles are off... she's too low in the heel but that's just what i'm seeing from the angle the pictures were taken.. which werent the best ones to really show off this horse. overall though she looks like a really nice little pleasure horse that should be loved and enjoyed. she looks better than most horses shown in the local shows around here and she'd probably do ok in halter at a local show

My 15 year old son used to ride a couple of horses to help him with behavioral and medical issues that were with him since birth. He needed to have the owner work with him one on one. He loved the horses he got to ride. He had to stop riding because of insurance issues. My son takes Horseless Horse project in 4-H, and makes different posters, with the breeds, colors, and parts to a saddle, etc.. He loves doing all of this.

How much do you think my horse is worth?

my horse is a 6 1/2 sorrel gelding. he is a registered quarter horse also. his full name is Smart Jazzy hickory. he did shows over the summer and the owners before us roped off him. he has limp to him and we can't find out why. so please help me find out how much he;s worth! oh yeah he's bomb proof and i can crawl underneath him and jumo on him backwards!

How much do you think my horse is worth?
eltigre...you are wrong. She can't get more for him by selling him for meat...educate yourself before you answer. Slaughter houses are closed to horses here in the US. I think the last one open was or might still be in Illinois. If a horse does go to slaughter, it's in Canada or Mexico.

And for you Stephanie T...you need to find out what is wrong with the horse before you try to find it's resale value. Right now the horse market is very low and you won't get much by selling a lame horse. By advertising here...good luck with that. I wouldn't even bother looking at the horse just by what you said about him. You sound like a kid disappointed with the horse...hope you don't have children someday and try to sell them just becuase something is wrong. Have you tried taking the horse to a vet? You say nothing about that. So it doesn't sound like you have tried much of anything.
Reply:if hes so good why do u want to know how much he is worth??

animals are worth their weight in gold to the people who love them so you cant reely put a price on him.

if you just want to know how much he is worth because he is lame?? and you want to sell him??

.. then shame on you!!
Reply:If he has a limp then you may get more from the meat man from him than a prospective buyer.

Has the vet gave him the all clear to carry on with work and if so to what level. Does this limp get worse with harder work.

I think this horses worth lies with your conscience. Some one may like him for the field but he would be better off as a gift as there are so many nice horses with no problems that go to the meat house.

This question can not be answered over the net without a thorough check of the animal and vet opinions.

Maybe his limp will clear. I hope so. good luck

How Much Is She Worth? How Much Whould U Pay 4 her? (please tell your location or state)?
I'm in Wyoming.

People love Quarter Horses around here, and kids horses are hard to find. But there are also quite a few horses and people are cheap. I'd probably price her around $2000.
Reply:In my area North Florida. You might get $1,200. Especially if she's kid safe. I might pay 900.00. The market stinks right now with Gas prices.....
Reply:$1,000 max where I'm from
Reply:IM in Oregon, and I'd pay up to $1600 for her.
Reply:i'm in virginia and here's my opinion. she's a cute little mare with mediocre conformation (not bad, just not stellar and brood mare quality). her pedigree isnt anything to talk about either.. point being this isnt ever going to be a top producing broodmare so that's going to lessen her value. now, being that she's got a great attitude and is kid safe i'd payup to 2,000 dollars for her based on the condition she was in and how well she rode the day i looked at her and advertise her as a family pleasure/trail horse
Reply:I live in Kinder, Louisiana. I'm also availible in Houston, Texas. I have 2 horses as it is. One i will be selling soon so i can get an "upgrade". I love all horses even before I see them. I have about 500 acres in Kinder, where the farm is. Right now w/o selling my QH i'd be able to pay maybe around 450 at the most, which I know isn't very much. After selling my mare (which i have no idea when that could happen) i could most likely pay up to 1600.

Transportation could be a possible issue. My trailer is really old and well...it's not usuable anymore, lets just say that. I don't trust using it even after a few home repairs.
Reply:I live in MS I would pay between 700- 1400 4 her. But that's without riding her. Also it depends on her job or if she has one a horse without a job is not worth much and if she's reg. If she's not she's not worth much. I don't mean to be rude it's just it's a depressed horse market. But I don't like paying major money to buy horses. She's pretty. :)
Reply:l Iive in tennessee. I regret to inform u she is mainly a kid pony. she would be a great starter. around here sorrels are very common. we own a training farm and she would be a great broodmare. the market is very bad and many are buying foals for 25 to 50 dollars . me going to the auctions every week i would price her at 400 for a kid safe pony. she is a nice ,mare but people will judge tht black spot idk why but they always seem to be a harder sale. thank u
Reply:She sounds like a nice mare, but the market is waaayyy down right now. I live in South Florida, and around here you might be able to get $1,000 for her, if that. Everyone around here has been throwing good quality horses away for much less then they are worth because of the economy and how much gas and hay prices have gone up. A friend of mine wanted to give me his gorgeous Holsteiner show mare, no joke. She was easily worth $5,000+ but he would have rather gotten rid of her right away for nothing then spent more time and money on feed waiting for someone to come along... It's pretty sad really.
Reply:She's cute, but she's a little on the small side, so that might hurt her marketability. However, a child-safe horse is always sellable.

In my area of Northern IL, a child-safe trail horse, even if its registered, would sell for around $2000. There's so many horses on the market right now, the fact she's kid broke, cute, a mare, and registered would help her sell, but I wouldn't list her any higher than $2500.
Reply:I live in Southern California. And I would not pay over 1,000 for her. Personally she's bland. Her figure is not super, her bloodlines not amazing. She looks not un sound or anything, but just not superb. She'd need a lot of work to get in shape. Every horse I've met with that roan coloring contracts some sort of strange problem. Might just be coincidence or something. Also you don't say enough about her training. Neck reins? Walk trot canter or walk jog lope? Or both? What is her area?
Reply:WASHINGTON.STATE

I am opposed to BUYING and SELLING of animals. Putting an animal into the hands of the person who offers the most money sets that animal up for possible abuse. If an animal needs to be permanently moved from one place to another, I would much rather see it GIVEN to a friend or acquaintance, or to a shelter or sanctuary that will go to the effort of finding it a good and appropriate home.

Show name for my hunter Rio?
How about Rio Pintado? It means "painted river" in Spanish.
Reply:Well, just to throw in a different idea. I like the name Orion. Orion is a constellation and was a god in Greek mythology. The other name for the constallation Orion is "The Hunter." Orion was a great hunter in Greek mythology. So, I think it fits excellently--Orion has rio in the middle, and it is synonymous with hunter. Plus, since he was a god, it also exudes strength, power, etc. Love it!

What Aerogarden seed kit to grow next?

For the past 5 months I've been killing it with the Gourmet Herb Kit (Cilantro, Chives, Italian Basil, Red Basil, Dill, Mint, Parsley) with my Aerogarden. But now it's time for a new kit. These are my options:

1) Cascading Petunias - Who doesn't love pretty flowers?

2) Salsa Garden - Cherry Tomatoes %26amp; Jalapeno Peppers

3) Gourmet Herb (same as last time) - it was a decent kit

4) Salad Greens - 7 varieties of green leaf lettuce

5) Romaine Kit - 4 red and 3 green romaine varieties

6) International Basil - Lemon, Thai, Napolitano, French, Italian, Globe, and red basil

7) French Herb - Chervil, Sorrel, French Basil, Parsley, Sage, Savory, chives

8) Italian Herb - Genovese Basil, Mint, Savory, Parsley, Thyme, Oregano

9) Japanese Herb - Mitsuba, red Shiso, Green Shiso, Nira, Chives, Cress, Shungiku

What would you recommend? Thanks.

What Aerogarden seed kit to grow next?
I have one also and I think I am ready to try something new also. I was thinking about the salsa kit! I would love to have fresh tomatoes in the kitchen, and the Jalapenos add great flavor to things, especially if you want to make a ceviche or something. So I would say let's both do the salsa garden!! Have fun!! Good luck and Happy Feasting!!

How much would you pay for this horse?

This horse is a Quarter Horse 5 yr. Sorrel. She is trained in cutting, reining, and some hunter. She has had over $15,000 in training. She has good cutting lines. I know for sure she has haida in her, just don't know the rest. The owners need to get rid of her and i am wondering how much you would pay for her? sorry but don't have any pics! if i get some i will put them up!!!

How much would you pay for this horse?
No one can answer that question because you left out too much information. To me the lines matter little, even for performance. What matters is how well they perform.

As far as training I have seen horses with LOTS of training that were not that athletic or well behaved.

My point is that its what the horse can do that is important. Not who it is out of or how much training went into it.
Reply:Sounds like the owners have spent a bunch of money trying to figure out what the horse is good at.

I recently saw a horse that had a years worth of training, who still didn't "get it"(and it seemed to me to have a neurological problem)- the trainer only kept trying because the owners were willing to pay based on her paint job and blood lines, and he(trainer) didn't want to admit defeat.

I'd keep looking.
Reply:So, she is trained. Is that it? Probably around $5,000 to $7,000. A picture would be a much better way to tell as a horse's confirmation is highly important in pricing. If the horse has won shows and is rated, he could be worth anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 depending. How much money someone spent on training the horse shouldn't matter as some people don't spend money to train their horses' and they come out just as good if not better than those professionally trained. Hope this helps.
Reply:If they are good runners $30,000 but if they are not 7500 and if they can breed, 15000!

It all depends on how well they run!
Reply:hi

I have to horses and i would pay the price the owners are asking for the horse. Most good riding horses are worth a lot more than what the owners are asking. If you want to pay a bit less ask questions like Is it a good jumper?

Is it okay if children and any level riders can ride it?

Does it kick?

Does it Buck?

It is not just is the horse good to ride think about other things.

Pay what you think is right.

The horse you have described sounds great and worth the money! Its up to you if you want go for it!

Money is Money a horse is a whole new world.

I hope my advice has helped you! If you want more help email hope-1996@hotmail.com

Reply:Question is What do you want a horse for? If this horse fits your needs then I guess $7000 is worth it.
Reply:From that 7000 sounds a bargin!
Reply:if you can get her for 7000 good deal.
Reply:I would pay approx. 8-9000 for a horse that well trained!!!!!!
Reply:i can't really be sure without seeing the horse and seeing it move but from what you say 7000 will be good
Reply:It depends on if you like it and if it is what you're looking for. If it's something you like and want maybe 5,000 to 7,000 and maybe more it really depends on who you are and what you think of the horse.

Hope it helps and you get the horse.
Reply:i would pay 1000000000 dollars because it looks good
Reply:I would want to see this mare in action in areas they say she is trained. People can say they have done this or that with a horse but only by seeing the horse work do you know the truth. How is she loading and unloading, for farrier work is she UTD on shots? Spend some time with the mare if you can putting her through some of her training they say she has. Price depends on her training what owners want for this mare and what you are willing to give.

My filly is 100% quarter horse, why is she getting white spots on her rump?

My 1 year old quarter horse filly is getting unusual spots on the top of her rump. I know she isn't going to be gray, she doesn't have any gray around her eyes. She's a rich sorrel color, with light (not flaxen) mane, and a black, red, blonde, deep red (almost purple) tail.. ..

the spots range in size from a dime to a nickel... and some look more like short streaks.

ANY HELP APPRECIATED, IM CONFUSED!!

THANK YOU!

My filly is 100% quarter horse, why is she getting white spots on her rump?
Im not sure what country you are in, but in australia if i breed an appaloosa with a QH the foal would be called a first cross QH , if I then breed that foal back to a QH it would be known as a second cross QH. If you then breed that second cross horse back to a QH, the foal it had whould be able to be registered as a pure bred QH, so it is possible 3 genirations back you may have some appaloosa breeding. hope you understood that!
Reply:Could she be a Silver dapple?

Looking at the photo,I still think that she may be a silver dapple.as she resembles the horses in the links I posted. I guess that only time will tell. She's a real cutie, though.
Reply:It is not unusual for QH's to have white spots on them somewhere. Afterall, this is where the paint breed came from. The "spots" could also be an expression of a gene that basically causes a slight roaning. It is not a true roan gene, but does result in similar markings. As for the spiral curls in the tail, this is because she is still a baby. As she grows and matures, her tail will straighten.

In the US, a horse with any breeding other than QH or TB cannot be registered with AQHA. I don't know about rules for other countries, but if the horse is AQHA registered regardless of where it is, it cannot have appaloosa breeding.

Has your horse's sense of humor, ever freaked you out?

Example...

One day, I went to catch my mare to go riding. She decided to stay JUST out of my reach. Didn't run away, would follow where ever I walked to, and was TOTALLY watching me.

If I moved forward...she would move backwards the same amount of steps. If I walked away...she would follow the same amount of steps.

This went on for 30 minutes or so.

I finally got ticked off...and called her a "red-headed...ummmm...witch...yeah...tha... what I said! [She's a sorrel...hence the red-head term.]

Turned around and went to go get a rope...[I was gonna show her she couldn't get away with that!] she followed me across the pasture, into the corral, and then just stood there so I could walk up to her, even though the gates were open. I think she was having fun with me. I was soooo irritated!

Has your horse's sense of humor, ever freaked you out?
That's funny! I used to live on the same farm as my grandparents and my grandma will walk over to the barn 2 a day with a dish full of cat food, bend over, and poor it into a larger dish for the cats. When she bent over, her pants would go down and shirt up exposing her lower back and butt. My horse would watch her from a distance, take a real big swig of water and hold it in his mouth (his cheeks would even puff out!) and just wait. Once she was bent over and not paying any attention, my horse would walk over as quietly as he could till he was right up behind her. Then he'd reach down and squirt water all over her exposed areas and then follow up by rubbing his cold, wet nose all over too! My grandma would scream and jump from surprise. My grandma will also use a plastic grocery bag to carry the cat food dish in and she'll set the bag down beside her as she feeds the cats. My horse likes to sneak up, grab the bag from her, and take off running to the opposite end of the corral. My grandma will go running after him, yelling, and he'll wait till she's almost there then either drop the bag or run back to the barn with the bag and then drop it. He used to do the same thing with my dad's stocking cap that he'd wear in the wintertime, only my horse would grab it off the top of my dad's head! lol. I'm the only person in my family that knows anything about horses and also the only one my horse Doesn't do practical jokes on!

Oh, and this same horse, decided to help me clean one day. I had a wheelbarrow in the barn to scoop poop into (the barn is just a dirt floor open cattle barn) when my horse decides he has to poop too. He looks at the wheelbarrow then walks past it and looks behind him. He looks behind on both sides, makes sure he's lined up perfect to the wheelbarrow, backs up so that he's directly between the handles, then poops in the wheelbarrow. He's done that every time I'd have a wheelbarrow in that barn to clean up. I loved it; potty broke horse! lol.
Reply:Well it wasnt my horse but my trainers....

Floyd is a 18h. Percheron/TB gelding. Ann (Trainer) Was doing some begining parelli with him. She was trying to get him to walk on his own but after him not getting it she stopped. He went over the the fence picked up her coat and threw it in the air.

Another time Ann was getting him to accept having a simple saddle pad thrown onto his back without him getting nervous. She put it on him all was well put the pad on the fence let him go. As she was leaving the paddock Floyd went over picked the pad up put it on the ground and stepped on it.

And last but not least my all time favorite.

Anns brother was putting some gravel by the walk to Floyds gate and was spreading it with a rake. He got tired or distracted but put the rake leaning up against the fence. When he came back Floyd had the tip of the rake in his mouth and was trying to push it back and forth.

This horse is such a cutie and is so smart.
Reply:It's just your horse having fun :)

Maybe she wants more attention, or for you to play with her more! Don't be irritated; just play with her :)
Reply:My old cob, Bobby (RIP), had a real sense of humor!

Whenever we rode past a local church, if there was a wedding or a funeral, he would let out a huge volley of farts. If the church was closed, he would pootle by without a whisper!

He was pretty bomb proof. On one ride, a big lorry past us so close that it caught my stirrup and almost pulled me off his back. He was such a star and didn't flinch. Later, on the same ride, we were heading home down a nature trail and a butterfly flitted in to his face. He bolted almost the whole way back to the yard!

He also liked to show off when out with other horses. He could piaffe and passage, but his party piece was overtaking other horses who were cantering, while still in trot!

I never felt unsafe with him. He always knew when it was safe to 'have a giggle' and when he had to look after me.
Reply:I tell people he plays mind games with me and he WINS! :P

He's stolen whatever he can get a hold of, he opens doors.

The worst was when he stole the farriers hat and started waving it around, like he was playing keep away. Cheeky little monster.
Reply:You got outsmarted by a horse. That's hilarious.
Reply:that's what make some horses so unique. my mare Serene will walk the other direction when I go to catch her at times but if I'm close enough to grab her tail she will just stop and turn around lol I like a horse with a little personality
Reply:Ok, so I am not lucky enough to have a horse...but, my snake Orin (A burmese albino python) had a wicked sense of humor.

She would coil loosley around my neck, she looked like a rather bulky neck brace. We were in the petstore one day and I felt her move. we were looking at a wall of terrariums housing all kinds of critters and there was the elderly woman standing next to us looking at anoles.

Orin slowly moved toward the woman and when she got about 10 inches from her left eye, she just yawned. No hissing, no tension in her body, just a good ol fashioned yawn.

The woman must have seen something out of the corner of her eye and turned her head and was now staring down Orins throat. To say she screamed would not do it justice! She freaked out and I thougt she was gonna have a coronary! Orin, now finished with the yawn, closed her mouth and put her head back up into my pont tail. I swear to god I could her her sniggering.

Thankfully the woman was ok, and thought it was funny after she regained her composure.

This all happened in a matter of seconds. I had no chance to stop her, It just never dawned on me that she might do something like that.
Reply:That's funny. My mare does the same thing. Then I'll walk into the barn and she'll follow, then I'll close the barn doors, ha ha caught ya. It's okay, she just wants to play. Take her into a field, just you and her, and play. She's probably bored.
Reply:if you ride the 4 wheeler through the pasture... my horse will gallop in all around it.... she'll even play chicken with it.... very very scary.
Reply:Several of my horses have a very funny personalities.

1. At State Fair last year I had a big case of nerves. My first class (English Showmanship) I performed my pattern pretty good and I was at line up. I was nervous but Chick wasen't he loved big shows, he was so excited. The announcer yelled "The judge would like to give an honorable mention to 1227" I was upset I figured I didn't place. But I kept my showmanship for and smiled. "10th place and congrats goes to 1256, from Crawford...." I freaked I started jumping up and down. That was MY number, I go to get my ribbon, I could hardly walk. Chick was pulling on the lead, "helping me walk" as we got the ribbon.

When it was time for pictures, I had a picture of me on him. They have a distraction. Well I only had 4 hours of sleep, so they got the horse in the correct position. They had a mop, They waved it in the air. I looked at the mop memorized and Chick was looking at the canmera, the guy thought it was funny he took of picture of it. Once we switched we got the best picture.

2. My new pleasure prospect

My sweet 16 instead of getting a car my parents bought me a pleasure prospect. He was a yearling when we had the farrier come out. To "pratice" putting the shoes on. My horse had a sucking problem. To him the world is a giant pacifcer to him. Well the farrier was working on the front hoof. My horse reachs over and starts to suck on my farriers shirt. He was mad, jumped and yelled at the horse. Later he started laughing about it

3. Same prospect horse

We were getting to unload my horse at the trainer. My horse decided that he didn't like this place, and he stood stock still. I'm unloading him. I was mad that he deicded that he's new to the fact of unloading. (we've been to many places onthe TRAILER with him) anyway I got mad and started to wack him with the lead yelling at him to get his (insert words here, and here, and here, and here and finally here) off the trailer. Finally my friend told me to wrap the lead around his neck and she'd unload him. (we had to go somewhere after and we're running late) so I do that and before my friend puts a foot on the trailer my horse backs off the trailer as if there hadn't been a problem. I was so mad. Anyway after that we're standing in the asile way talkingto the trainer. The guy had just put hay and feed in the stalls. So he takes my horse and walks down the stall line. You know how you can put a horse in stall without going in yourself? Well he did that BUT the guy put the hay next to the door. My horse puts his head down and the rest of his bodys in the asle! the trainers face was really funny, I'm on the ground laughing, and he puts the horse in the stall again this time sucessful.
Reply:Wow. It's happened to me to. My horse likes to make fun of me. That's funny though, so did you ever get to ride her?
Reply:I wouldn't be irritated with her at all. You should feel honored that your horse decided to include you in her play. horses also realize your intentions, and if your obvious about catching her, and she doesn't want to be caught, it's not happening. Instead of getting frustrated at this, learn from it. Observe her, it will teach you a lot about your mare, and where she's coming from.
